Final day – rain

I am sitting here in front of the bay window on the last day of our vacation watching George pre-pack the car…. in the rain. And I’m not talking drizzle. No, it’s raining. Even though the weather has not been overly summer-like for the last two weeks – and most of the time it has been overcast – George and I had a very nice two weeks. Sure, it would have been nice to go spend an evening on the beach without being bundled up, but it has been good.

Yesterday, we went into Newport and walked the Cliff Walk. That morning, it was overcast and drizzling, and by the time we got there, it was starting to clear up. The best part was that it was not too hot to walk it (it is not all paved). On our way back to the cottage, we stopped at Flo’s in Middletown and had two #1s (cup of chowder – either clear, RI, or red – 3 clam cakes, and a Bud Light draft for $5.50) while looking out over the water. It was a good day.

Today, I went for a 6 mile run, then we went to my parents’ house to cut down some branches for them and chat. On our way back to the island, we stopped for lunch at the Wharf Tavern (where we got married) and Coggshall’s Jewelers in Bristol. Didn’t find anything I really liked.

Other than that, we have been spending our last day relaxing, planning for tomorrow’s trip. So we have packed most of our stuff, mapped out the optimal return route and checked the weather. George also has jotted down all the NPR station in between here and South Bend. All we have left to do is go to Flo’s for one last cup of clear chowder…
