Last week was the orientation for new faculty. I found it to be informative and I got to meet a lot of the other people who are just starting at UNF. There were two social events, one at MOCA (the Museum of Contemporary Art) and the other was a cheese and wine gathering at the conclusion of the training week. The former was better attended than the latter, but both were good.
George and I also had a cookout on Saturday for new faculty. Some were in the process of moving still, but we had a pretty good turn out. Basic grub: hot dogs and hamburgers. Erin (a new faculty in Philosophy) also brought a yummy savory tart. There was food and much drink, and I believe a good time was had by everyone. There was also some talk to get together once a month throughout our fist year… support stuff.
On Monday my computer was finally installed in the office. I have gotten more work done on the last two days than I have all summer. It is amazing how much work one can get done when there are no cats walking on the keyboard, meowing for attention, or deciding to stand between you and the monitor! The temptation for taking a nap and doing sundry tasks around the house is also removed, leaving only work to get done.
To sum up my first week and a half, so far, so good. I do think I am going to enjoy this coming year!
WAS GLAD TO HERE THAT EVERTHING IS WORKING OUT WELL. SOUNDS LIKE YOU AND GEORGE WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME.
WE ENJOYED HAVING YOU HERE AND THANKS FOR THE RECEIPES.
